Nature Corner

Welcome to Nature’s Corner, your guide to staying safe, informed, and connected with the natural environment around Wissler Ranch. This page provides important tips and resources on storm safety, forest and wildlife management, gardening, and landscaping—all designed to help residents enjoy our beautiful surroundings while protecting themselves, their property, and our community’s ecosystem.

Lightning Safety

Your safety during storms is a top priority. If you hear thunder, clear the common areas and seek shelter immediately. Structures like the mailbox are not safe during lightning, and standing under trees is extremely dangerous.

For more tips on staying safe during storms—both indoors and outdoors—visit the National Weather Service Lightning Safety page.

Forest Health

Wissler Ranch values healthy forests. The Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) offers guidance for managing trees both in common areas and on private properties. Each fall, the CSFS conducts a review of the community and inspects for pine beetle infestations, helping us proactively remove infected trees and prevent the spread of insects.

Our community is Firewise® certified, and your efforts on your property help maintain this recognition. If you complete mitigation work, please let the HOA know by sending a brief email detailing the type of activity, time spent, or dollars invested. Thank you for helping keep Wissler Ranch safe and resilient!

Gardening and Landscaping

Gardening and landscaping in Colorado’s arid climate can be challenging but rewarding. The Colorado State University Extension provides excellent resources for drought-tolerant plants, sustainable landscaping, and water-wise gardening practices.

Wildlife Safety

Wissler Ranch is home to diverse wildlife. Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages the state’s wildlife and provides valuable information on how to enjoy the outdoors safely. Remember: it is against Colorado law to feed wildlife, and following guidelines helps prevent conflicts and keeps both animals and residents safe.

Visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website for tips on coexisting safely with local wildlife.
